Born in Santander (Spain), Iturrino became the companion of Cézanne, Gauguin and Van Gogh. As a young man he moved with his family to Bilbao. He traveled to Belgium in 1883 to study engineering, but ended up studying drawing from life in Brussels in 1890. Upon his return to Spain, he traveled through Andalusia, Salamanca, and other parts of the country, choosing local models which he painted as an exercise in exploration. color.
