Description
After five years of painting the half-length portrait of the actress María del Rosario Fernández, Goya painted this full-length portrait, in an open-air setting with an iron fence and a fountain in the background. She wears an elegant white chiffon dress, with a plunging neckline, and gold details to match the dress. The quick execution of the artist is clearly seen in the representation of these garments. La Tirana received her name as a complement to that of her husband, Francisco Castellanos. They say that Castellanos earned the nickname El Tirano for his dramatic roles.
