Description
The art academy was located in the former Electoral Palace gallery building from 1821 until the fire of 1872. The library, apartments, and work rooms were located on the ground floor. The teachers' studios were on the first floor. Other work rooms and the gardening classroom were on the second floor. Sixteen-year-old academy student Andreas Achenbach painted the oil from the window of his parents' apartment in two months. He has depicted himself in the center of the foreground holding a scroll.
