Description

Kazimir Malevich, one of the pioneers of abstract art in the twentieth century, presents a unique manifestation of his talent and vision in the work "Cortation" (1912). This Russian artist is widely known for being one of the founders of suprematism, an artistic movement that sought the supremacy of pure sensitivity in abstract art on the objective forms of reality.

When observing "corteped", we find an image that, although it seems to tend towards figuration, reveals an inherent abstract and geometric complexity. The central figure, a reaper, is captured in an arduous moment of work, but the representation of this figure is distorted through the use of shapes and colors that transcend the mere realistic representation.

The composition is dominated by a bold and contrasting chromatic range. The background, a deep red field, creates a powerful ground on which the figure of the reaper is displayed. This color use not only defines space, but also adds an emotional intensity, an almost theatrical quality to the scene. The figure itself is of a dark and brown green color, with touches of white, black and yellow, creating a clear contrast with the background and highlighting the movement and activity of the corteped.

As for compositional design, Malevich demonstrates his mastery in handling forms and lines. The figure, although recognizable, is fragmented in geometric shapes, suggesting a movement and dynamism that is both robust and stylized. The exaggerated proportions of the limbs and the body of the reaper evoke a sense of strength and industriousness, almost as if they captured the very essence of physical work.

This painting is a clear testimony of the transition period in Malevich's work, where it began to explore the borders between figuration and abstraction. "Cortation" retains sufficient figurative elements to be identifiable, but also introduces a more abstract and geometric style that prefigures its subsequent suprematist works.

In the context of art history, works such as "Cortation" are essential to understand the development of modernism and the evolution of avant -garde art in Eastern Europe. Malevich, through this painting, not only captures a moment of rural life, but also challenges the viewer to see beyond the surface, to understand art as a sensory and emotional experience.

"Cortation" is not simply a representation of an agricultural worker; It is an exploration of shapes, colors and compositions that reflect Malevich's constant search for a new visual language. In this painting, he paves the way for future developments in abstraction, showing how art can be a vehicle to express more than the visible, reaching the purely sensory and emotional.
