Description

Edwin Austin Abbey was a painter born in Philadelphia in the early 19th century. He was well known for his paintings dating back to the Shakespeare era.

The painting "The Queen in Hamlet" was inspired by the famous Shakespeare play "Hamlet". The queen in the painting is Gertrude, Hamlet's mother. She is sitting on her throne in the image and appears to be in deep contemplation.

The colors in this painting appear to be very cloudy and mystical. The dark blue background represents a real background. Blue is a royal color. However, the shade of blue appears to be very subdued and blends in with an almost black environment. She is sitting on a red chair, which is also dark, and she is dressed in white. These colors give indications that there is a desperate mood.  In general, this painting expresses colors in a way of royalty and tragedy.
