Description

Composition VIII is an abstract painting created by the Russian artist Wassily Kandinsky in 1923. It is considered one of the most important works of Kandinsky's career and is a leading example of lyrical abstraction, a style he himself helped develop.

What is the attraction of this painting? Even if one begins to try to describe the individual appearance of the various circular forms, neither the point, the ball, the disk, the circular object of the globe, nor the orb, serve to accurately determine the character of it.

What is interesting about this work is that Kandinsky created the painting after having experienced a great personal and artistic crisis. In 1914, just before the outbreak of World War I, Kandinsky moved to Russia and separated from his wife. During this time, he was deeply affected by the outbreak of the war and by the political tension in his country. He also faced criticism from other Russian artists who rejected his abstract approach to art.

In Composition VIII, Kandinsky moved away from recognizable forms and references to the natural world, and instead created a work that is purely abstract. The painting features a complex and vibrant design of geometric shapes, lines and colours, suggesting a dynamic energy and vitality. Although the work does not have a concrete interpretation, it is considered a powerful expression of the emotion and passion that Kandinsky felt during this period of his life.

Composition VIII is ranked no. 61 on the list of famous paintings
